Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will be joining hundreds of participants in Toronto’s Pride parade on June 3, making him the very first Canadian PM to actively join an LGBT march.
According to CBC, 44-year-old Trudeau will be joined by Finance Minister Bill Morneau and Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne. Toronto Mayor John Tory will be joining the list of politicians attending the event as well.

Syrian refugees will also be marching alongside Justin Trudeau and other political figures, according to BBC. Ever since heading the administration in October 2015, he’s taken an active role in welcoming Syrian refugees into Canadian territory. Around 25,000 Syrian refugees are expected to arrive by the end of the month.

In an interview with Buzzfeed, Mathieu Chantelois, executive director of the Toronto Pride parade, says he is looking forward to the PM’s participation in the event.
“[It’s] big news in Canada but big news around the world,” Chantelois told the website about Justin Trudeau’s participation. “Not only because he is probably the sexiest politician alive but also because there has never been a leader of a country to walk in a parade, at least not that we know of.”
